Is it too late for me?
I had lapband surgery in march and had a slippage, had to have in redone in May. In June I had a major back surgery and am just now starting to get around real good. I have barely lost any weight! I am so discouraged and want to give up. I want so bad for this weight to come off but I seem so stuck.....its been 4 1/2 months and I hear that so many people loss weight the first couple of months, is it too late? Or do I pick myself up and move on more focused thatn ever. I have not conquered the mind hunger and this seems to get in the way of my thinking and hunger sometimes.....I really need some support! Any Advice would be great! Thanks
Shannon

My SIL got her band 12/08/08. She lost almost 40 pounds. Now she's 15 weeks pg. She basically has to wait 5 more months for her journey to begin, but IT CAN begin in 5 months because the tool IS THERE.
Your journey can begin whenever YOU are ready for it because your tool is there. There's not a "window" for losing with the band. You get on the bandwagon and get your fills regularly and live like a bandster. You CAN do this!
ON YOUR MARK...GET SET.....
GO!

thanks so much for the encouraging words, boy I sure do need them. I just wanted to get lost in my own pity because I have always failed at every weight loss thing I have tried and so i was excited to get it done. And I even borrowed the money to get this done and beleive me my mother in law reminds me every month to pay her so I have a constant reminder that i haven't lost much! So thanks again for the encouragement!
I've spent just about every day since getting my band waiting for it not to work because nothing ever did so why should this be different.
WORK IT and you will succeed. Become OCD about it for awhile if you have to and be obsessed and you'll see the results. It WILL happen.
If you've had a slip you need to pay close attention to what you are doing and be a little obsessive about it so another slip doesn't happen if it can be prevented.
Look at my profile. I didn't really have my weight loss kick in until I had fill 5. Then my clothes started falling off and I about skipped a size or two. WORK IT. You can do it.
Come here and report your progress daily. No one will tell you you can't or treat you badly. Post often. That's what we're all here for.

Thanks!!! How long did it take for u to lose weight? I know everyone is different. I had a slippage due to an overfill and it could nt hold it. What kinds of things do u eat or not eat? i was told tohave 850 cal a day and 60 protein a day. So where do I begin? I appreciate all of your feedback and can promise you that u have given me hope once more.
850 isn't enough in my opinion. My understanding(chime in here ladies) is in order for your body to maintain a burn you have to have 1000-1200 cals. 60 grams of protein is also kind of low...80 is about ideal. This is after you are humming right along on solids though...not during your liquid phase.
No flour tortillas. Corn only if crispy.
Bread won't work unless it's sourdough and toasted well. Even then, only a couple of bites.
Angel hair pasta and "shaped" pastas are the easiest for my husband and I. Regular spaghetti won't go.
All those carbs being listed....we mostly eat meat. I have a hard time with veggies although I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. Makes me sad. I can't do salad(maybe 2-3 bites). So, we do mostly meat. All kinds of meat.
FOR ME.....disclaimer disclaimer...I figure the type of meat(with a bit of gravy if I need it) won't kill me since my quantities are so low.
In the beginning I was pretty good about not eating crap. I stayed away from chocolate and junk. Now, not as much. I don't do well being deprived. So, I have a mini-reeces or a bite size candy bar. Just a little taste for me quenches. I can make a regular size candy bar go for days now. LOL...it was gone in seconds before surgery!
I'm not a model bandster. I eat what I want. I just don't eat EVERYTHING or ALL OF IT. I use little plates now. No point in loading up a big one to only take 3-4 bites of each thing.
Stay away from alcohol. It's just EMPTY calories and will deplete your vitamin levels. Take vitamins. We don't have the same problems with malabsorption that other surgeries do, but if you consider our WAY SMALL quantities of things you will realize that our vitamin intake from those things is diminished as well. I get gummy vites from Costco. I have issues with artificial sweetners(allergic and get horrible migraines from even a piece of sugar-free gum). The gummy vites I take are all natural(sugar comes from fruit juice). Take a B-12 sublingual. It will all help.
Your protein will help your hair stay on your head as well. If you don't get enough your hair will show it.
That's all I got tonight. Gotta crash. Lots of stuff on my profile and lots of really smart people here on the TMB. Crazy people, but smart.

I'm going to try to chime in here off of Kris' post.... I will agree that 850 calrories is not enough, but what is your protein range.... you have got to keep your protien range above 70 or 80. I don't count calories, but protein...I'm not a good bandster, I forget to eat, so I try to focus on protein grahams. I pack cheese sticks, jerkey, Boost, sf ff pudding, etc in my bag I carry to work. I have also started a new job.. I am one that when I get stressed I can't eat, I get stuck very easy when I am stressed, and I am over 2 years out, so I pack the protein sliders I know I can get down. We are all different, what Kris and her hubs can eat, I can't... I don't tolerate pasta or bread, it just doesn't work for me, the only chicken I can do is the canned stuff... When you try something new, just take very small bites, and chew, chew, chew.... we all have to learn what our bodies will adapt to. I have gone back to supplementing with shakes, You also have to supplement with vitiams, these are so important because we do not consume very many calories.
It's all a learning process Shannon, I'm still learning after 2 years out. YOU have to set your mind on working your tool. We're here to lend you a shoulder, and give you a helping hand. Hang in there, hope this made sense, cause my brain is very tired :) Going to go crash now :)
We're here to help, just holler!!
